About Disease Mapper

The knowledge base consists of four groups: diseases and pathological conditions, laboratory and biochemical parameters, anatomical and histological elements and pathological or (patho)physiological processes.

The elements in four groups hierarchically overlap. At the top are the elements of the first group (diseases and pathological states). The element of this group can include items from other groups. This means that the disease f.e. is associated with the pathology of some organ or metabolic disorder of some biochemical element or a pathological process. Pathological processes are located below in the hierarchy. These include anatomical and biochemical elements. Below that are anatomical processes. They include only biochemical elements. At the bottom of the hierarchy are biochemical elements.

The elements of one group may be bonded to each other. These connections are hierarchical: the element is a subset of the other elements or logical: one element influences the other element.

This structure significantly reduces the description of pathological states and processes and makes it possible to systematize them: each element can belong to a group (or several groups) and extends properties of each groups. Their own properties expand the group's properties.

The knowledge base consists of

  • > 70k diseases and pathological conditions or symptoms. ICD0, ICD10, KEGG, OMIM are in the base. In some cases the items of the classifications are intersecting. In all cases they are grouped together.

  • > 50k laboratory and biochemical parameters. Swissprot, EC (enzymes) classifications are in this base.

  • > 4k anatomical and histological elements.

  • > 4K pathological or (patho)physiological processes.
